The professional military backbone of the Roman Empire, dispatched to Campania to suppress the industrial insurrection of Picentia.

Snapshot #

The Imperial Legions represent the overwhelming military force of Rome. In the Lydian Stone divergence, they are the primary antagonist force sent to Campania to re-establish Imperial control over the "rebel" industrial state of Picentia.

Mandate/Charter #

To maintain the Pax Romana, enforce Imperial tax collection, and dismantle any regional entity that threatens the centralized authority of Rome.

Role in the Divergence #

During the Boats Era, the Legions were initially used as a psychological threat by the Imperial Procurator. However, as the House of Gaius and the Seven Widows moved toward open defiance, the Legions were mobilized for a full-scale suppression of the Campanian coast.

Conflict with Industry #

The Legions represent traditional Roman power—discipline, formation, and steel. They are the "unmovable object" to the "unstoppable force" of Picentian technology.

  • The Tactical Gap: While the Legions possess superior numbers and discipline, they are initially unprepared for the psychological and logistical impact of steam-powered naval transport and early mechanized weaponry.
  • The Insurrection: The execution of Aulus by the Procurator's guard triggered a violent civilian and industrial uprising that the local garrisons were unable to contain.

Key Figures #

  • The Procurator: The civilian administrator who wields the authority of the Legions.
  • Praetorian Guard: The elite detachment that accompanied the Procurator to the Villa of Gaius.
