A charismatic Roman citizen and wool trader whose arrogant defiance of imperial authority sparked the Picentian insurrection.

Snapshot #

Aulus was a respected Roman citizen and a central figure in the Campanian wool industry. A peer of Gaius Calidius and a key strategist for the Picentian Nobles, he was characterized by his "lust for life," his reckless confidence, and his loyalty to the regional industrial project. His public execution by the Imperial Procurator in late 80 AD served as the turning point that shifted the Picentian divergence from industrial success into open rebellion.

Biography #

Aulus was a bon vivant who embraced Greek-influenced hedonism, enjoying fine wine and social status. In 79 AD, he was a leading voice in the Emergency Council, persuading the noble families to stay and rebuild in Picentia through mechanized labor. His arrogance grew alongside the region's wealth; by 80 AD, he openly mocked the Imperial Procurator's demands for profit-sharing. This defiance led to his sudden execution, an act intended to crush the regional spirit that instead fueled Livia's radicalization.
