Modern-day archaeology researcher and primary contact with the past, characterized by his obsessive drive and growing ethical isolation.

Snapshot #

Ulysses is the modern-day protagonist of the Lydian Stone narrative. A mid-20s archaeology researcher at the Pompeii excavation site, he discovered a temporal bridge to the year 79 AD. He is defined by his intense imposter syndrome, his reliance on medication for anxiety, and his willingness to commit academic fraud to protect his connection to the past.

Biography #

Born in the early 21st century, Ulysses was a student intern who spent weeks cataloging rocks before discovering a hidden study containing the Lydian Stone. His promotion to Researcher was based on the "breakthrough" discoveries he made using coordinates provided by Marcus from the past. Throughout 2025 and 2026, he moved from being a detached "simulation player" to a deeply involved architect of Roman history, eventually providing the formula for gunpowder to influence a war two millennia dead.

Roles & Ranks #

  • Archaeology Researcher: Official rank at the Pompeii excavation site.
  • The Silent Architect: His secret role in manipulating the Roman industrial revolution.

Relationships #

  • Marcus: His ancient counterpart and "friend across time." Their relationship evolved from one of survival to complex bargaining for lost knowledge.
  • Lucia: His technical partner and only confidant in the modern era. Together they maintain the "Shadow Architecture" to hide their tampering from the site director.
  • Parrini: His bureaucratic superior. Ulysses views Parrini with a mix of fear and contempt, viewing him as a threat to the secret research.

Key Appearances/Events #

  • Discovery of the Stone (2025): The event that defined his current life.
  • The Radar Sabotage: His first major act of fraud to protect the Lydian Stone.
  • The Gunpowder Decision (2026): His final surrender of ethical neutrality.
