The Blueprint #
A full-page splash of the completed schematic for the Horizontal Loom as interpreted and drawn by Marcus. It bridges Lucia's engineering concepts with the Roman material reality.
The design features a rugged oak frame, a smooth "Race" channel, and the Radius Volans (Flying Shuttle)—a streamlined piece of polished olive wood with bronze tips.
Marcus has added technical annotations in Latin for the fabrication: "Siro to plane the race to a glass-finish. Rufus to forge the shuttle-noses from leaded bronze. Grease the track with pig fat and beeswax."
His marginalia reveals his strategic thinking: "The Lanifica will call it 'lazy weaving' because they must sit. I will tell them it is a throne for the cloth. I will explain the rope-pull as a variation of the ballista's trigger."
