A montage of the dangerous construction process follows. Rufus casts the massive bronze cylinder, praying to Vulcan: "Thick walls. No bubbles. If this cracks, we all die."
Siro fits leather gaskets onto wooden valves, greasing them with tallow. "It has to hold the breath, but let it go. It’s a paradox."
During the first cold pressure test, a seal leaks. Marcus remains steady: "Stop. Replace the leather and test again."
They stand back, looking at the silent machine. Rufus reaches for the wine: "We light it tomorrow."
"If we survive tomorrow," Siro adds, "I’m doubling my price."
